Terms and Conditions

These Terms & Conditions (“Terms”) apply to all services booked through Ink and Insights. By booking a service, you agree to these Terms.
1.About Ink and Insights

2.Services covered by these Terms
These Terms apply to all services and add-ons offered by Ink and Insights, including:

Opening Pages Critique (first 10,000 words)

Manuscript Assessment / Structural Report

Query Letter & Synopsis Review
-
Author Mentoring (1:1)
3.What the services are (and are not)
My services provide editorial critique and guidance focused on story craft and reader impact (for example: plot, structure, pacing, tension, stakes, character motivation, plausibility, clarity, twists/reveals and payoff).
Unless explicitly stated on the service page, my services are not:

proofreading or copyediting (grammar/typos)

line-by-line editing of every sentence
-
ghostwriting or rewriting
-
a guarantee of publication, representation, sales, reviews, awards or any specific outcome
4.Booking and payment

Payment is due in full at the time of booking unless agreed otherwise in writing.

Your booking secures a slot in my schedule.

Prices are shown in GBP. VAT will be added if applicable.

For services priced by word count, you are responsible for selecting the correct bracket. If your word count exceeds the bracket booked, I may request payment of the difference before continuing.
5.Materials and deadlines (what I need from you)
You agree to provide all required materials (pages/manuscript/query/synopsis/outline and questionnaire information) promptly and in the requested format.
Turnaround time starts only once I have received all materials in full.
If materials are not supplied within 7 days of booking (or by any agreed deadline), the delivery date may need to move.
6.Turnaround times and rush services
Standard turnaround times are shown on the website and may vary depending on workload and word count.
Rush options are offered subject to availability and charged at the rate shown on the website. If you book a rush option and I cannot accommodate it, I will let you know as soon as possible. You may then choose either:

standard turnaround instead, or
-
a full refund, provided work has not started.
7.Mentoring calls (Zoom / phone / WhatsApp audio)
Mentoring sessions are usually held via Zoom. If you prefer a phone call or WhatsApp audio, this can be arranged - please note your preference when booking.
If you book an option that includes a pre-read, your pages/outline must be received at least 48 hours before the session. If materials are late, the session may proceed as call-only or may need to be rescheduled (subject to availability).
8.Confidentiality and copyright

You confirm that any materials you submit are your original work (or that you have the rights/permission to share them).

You retain full copyright in your work at all times.

I treat your materials as confidential and use them only to provide the service you booked.

I do not share your work with third parties except where necessary to run the business (for example, website/booking/payment providers) or where legally required.
9.Cancellations, rescheduling and refunds
Because these services involve reserving time and/or beginning work, refunds are limited as follows:
Cancellations by you
-
If you cancel more than 7 days before your booked slot/start date and work has not started, you may request a full refund or reschedule (subject to availability).

If you cancel within 7 days of your booked slot/start date, payments are normally non-refundable, but you may request one reschedule (subject to availability).

Once work has started (for example, I have begun reading, annotating, or drafting your report/feedback), the fee is non-refundable.
Rescheduling by you

You may reschedule once at no charge, subject to availability, provided you give at least:

48 hours’ notice for mentoring calls, and
-
5 business days’ notice for critiques/manuscript assessments.

Additional reschedule requests may be declined or may require a new booking.
If I need to reschedule / cancel
If I need to reschedule due to illness or unforeseen circumstances, I will offer the earliest possible alternative date. If a new date cannot be agreed, you may request a full refund (provided work has not started).
10.Complaints and issues
If you are unhappy with the service delivered, please contact me at hello@inkandinsights.co.uk within 14 days of delivery, explaining the issue. I will review your message and respond as soon as possible.
Please note: editorial feedback involves professional judgement, and disagreement with opinion alone is not a basis for a refund. However, I will always aim to ensure the service matches what was described and includes the promised deliverables.
11.Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, I am not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of profit, business, or opportunity. My total liability to you for any claim connected to the services will not exceed the amount you paid for the service in question. Nothing in these Terms limits liability where it would be unlawful to do so.
12.Privacy
Personal data is handled in accordance with the Ink and Insights Privacy Policy, available here.
13.Changes to these Terms
I may update these Terms from time to time. The latest version will always be posted on this website with the updated effective date.
14.Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, and any disputes will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
